I. Objective of the Position:

To provide direct supervision over the loading of tractor-trailer loads of hamburger buns daily. To ensure trailers and box trucks are loaded properly with the correct amount of product and that all shipments from the bakery complies with Federal, state, local regulations and company food safety, and quality requirements. Receives and inventories inbound shipments to the Company.

This position supports both our East Pointe Bakery and Airport Bakery

ll. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To train and re-train all shipping personnel in the operation and safety of forklifts, tractor trailer, box trucks, operation and proper loading procedures.
  • Diagram all outbound shipments and supervise the loading of trailers to ensure they are loaded properly so that our customers get the proper quantities of product. Ensure visual quality inspections of product being loaded to prevent and/or identify damage prior to departing for delivery.
  • Supply production department with proper number of trays needed for daily production demand of buns to prevent the bakery from shutting down.
  • Inventory freezer daily and report these figures plus amount of product needed for shipment for the rest of the day to the Transportation Department and Plant Manager to determine equipment and drivers needed for the day.
  • Check tractor and trailer equipment daily for problems or defects, which could delay shipment or effect product quality and determine appropriate action needed.
  • Performs other job related duties as may be assigned or required.

III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience equivalent to:

HS Diploma or GED Required, Bachelors Degree Preferred

3+ years of shipping/receiving experience.

Education/Certification: Incumbent must be able to obtain Commercial driver's license (Class A CDL) or have ability to get one within six months of hire date and forklift operation certification;

Experience: Experience operating a yard truck/tow motor tractor trailer safely (preferred). This includes operation of tractor Trailer in tight parking lots, ability to back trailer precisely from blind side.

Knowledge/Qualifications and Skill:

  • Knowledge of product inventory and proper loading procedures.
  • Knowledge of general bakery or manufacturing operations.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills/verbal and written.
  • Good English communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Ability to coach and counsel associates effectively
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with internal and external customers verbally and in writing
  • Must be knowledgeable of FMCSR and DOT requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Read and process written information with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Experience working with SAP (preferred) or other ERP systems
  • Must possess the highest possible standard of ethics
  • Demonstrate good organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills, able to meet deadlines.
  • Takes initiative and be self-motivated
  • Change Management/Process improvement

IV. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, push & pull objects over 100 lbs using carts or dollies.
  • Must be able to reach, grasp and twist
  • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme weather conditions.
  • Flexible schedule at times to meet department needs.
